MSC Daniela caught fire while it was anchored 10 Km away from the Colombo Habour. Once the vessel sent the distress signal Sri Lanka Navy sent out two of its Fast Attack Craft vessels towards the ship. Mean while Sri Lankan Port Authority tugs, Rawana and Maha Wewa engaged in the fire fighting. The Navy AFC was waiting for the ships' order, if the ship crew wanted to get evacuated, if the fire goes in to a full fledged one.
Sri Lanka Air Force too has supported fire fighting with their Bell 212 Helicopter with Bambi bucket to assist in dousing the fire that erupted on board the container vessel MV Daniela in the seas off Colombo.
Later News came out that the fire is doused and there is more danger for the ship or its crew members.
MSC Daniela was launched in the year 2008 and at that time it was the largest container carrier ship with a TEU cargo capacity of 14,000 containers with a length of 366 meters. It was built by Samsung Heavy Industries at Geoje, South Korea.
