Ferries, some time also called as Ro-Ro, are normally used to transport passengers along with their vehicles to other destinations. Their operations are limlted to no more than one week trips. In many part of the world these kind of ships are used by drivers of Trucks, Long vehicles which are used to transport goods from countries divided by seas and oceans. Some countries like Greece, Indonesia and Philippines use them to operate between islands of their countries to transport people and vehicles. In the English Channel, there are many Ferries are operationg between UK and other European countries.

Officers and crew, who are working onboard this vessels operating between different countries in International water must have the required training and valid certificates according to the IMO. The contract period may be from 6 months to one year depending on the operator or owner of the vessels.

As there are need for more stewards in this type of vessels, crew are recruited as stewards in much number. But due to available space problem in some ships, 4 crew members must share a cabin which are certified according to the industry standards. Many seaman regularly return to the same company ships after a given vaccation period.
